18th EUROPEAN CHESS SOLVING CHAMPIONSHIP 2025

The main event of the three days will take place on Saturday and Sunday morning (see the schedule, and pay attention to the different starting times!). It is also the first tournament of the WFCC Fujairah Grand Prix 2025-26!

Saturday, the competition will include twomovers, threemovers, and endgames.

On Sunday, in order, selfmates, moremovers, and helpmates will follow.

The Director of the ECSC will be Borislav Gadjanski (FIDE Solving Judge).

The organizers have entrusted Axel Steinbrink with overseeing the smooth execution of the two solving events (ECSC and OPEN).

OPEN

The Open Solving Tournament will take place on Friday afternoon, 17:00 – 20:30. It is open to all solvers without restrictions.

Participants will solve two rounds of six problems, one from each WCSC category.

The solving time is 90 minutes per round, with a 30-minute break in between.

The Open Solving is one of the most important tournaments of the World Solving Cup 2024/2025.

The Director of the Open Solving Tournament will be Axel Steinbrink,

with Nikos Mendrinos responsible for selecting the problems.

The organizers have entrusted Axel Steinbrink with overseeing the smooth execution of these two solving events (ECSC and OPEN).

MACHINE GUN

The popular solving event, open to all participants, will begin on Saturday at 18:30.

The rules, in brief, are as follows:

Problems are displayed one after another, and solvers write their answers on a special form.

The problem types are #2, h#2, and s#2.

30 problems to cope with, equally divided among the genres of twomovers (#2), selfmates (s#2) and helpmates (h#2)

100 seconds (1’&40’’) per problem

Two points reward for each correct answer, one point penalty for each wrong answer, zero points for no answer

You only need to indicate white first move for #2 and s#2, although both black and white first moves for h#2 are required

Ranking and Tie Breaks:

Highest score / On equal score, then more correct answers / Still tied, then the advantage goes to the lower international solving rating

No ranking for empty sheets
